Obituary

Milena Isidora Epstein Clavijo left home unexpectedly early on Tuesday, 16 July 2013. A farewell service will be held 10:00 am Friday, 26 July 2013, at Carson Speaks Chapel: 1501 West Lexington Avenue, Independence MO. She will be committed to the care of her ancestors and the earth at Mound Grove Cemetery.

Milena is the daughter of Saul Epstein Warnock and Elizabeth Clavijo Pazmiño of Prairie Village KS; granddaughter of Efrén Clavijo Duque and María Pazmiño Morla of Firestone CO, and Stanton Epstein Shukster and Janie Warnock Wheeler of Prairie Village KS; niece, great-niece and cousin to many — including her great aunt, Susie Warnock Wheeler, who somehow always has room.

They all mourn the loss of Milena’s body and its flowering in life, but feel honored and blessed to have closely shared even so short a stop on her journey. Her parents had much which they hoped to teach and prepare her for, but she taught them, and they know she will visit often between whatever duties and adventures call her.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com. In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions in Milena’s name to the City of Fountains Foundation (PO Box 9193 / Shawnee Mission KS 66201-1793; 816.842.2299).  Kansas City’s history of public fountains began with the Humane Society of Kansas City (KS)’s vision to provide people and animals free opportunity to drink or wash, and intersected with the vision of city planners and developers to make all the cities of Kansas City beautiful. That base has inspired in our citizens an uncommon devotion to public amenities and art, and Milena’s family look forward to seeing her reflected in the many monuments to that spirit forever.
